Description
NT SmartNICs can utilize SyncE-enabled networks to provide highly stable frequency
synchronization of the time stamp clock, which ensures a very good precision.
Note: SyncE
slave frequency synchronization does not apply to the following SmartNICs.
- NT200A02
- NT100A01
Illustration
The figure shows an NT SmartNIC configured in PTP and SyncE slave mode. The Napatech SmartNIC time stamp clock (TS Clk) is synchronized to the PTP grandmaster reference clock (Ref Clk). PTP provides time-of-day information and phase (the second tick), and SyncE provides highly stable frequency synchronization. SyncE can also be used without enabling PTP, and in this case only the clock frequency is synchronized to the reference.
ntservice.ini configuration
These ntservice.ini code lines configure the NT SmartNIC (Napatech SmartNIC PTP Slave) for the setup in Illustration and to permanently run in PTP slave-only mode (clock class 255) and synchronize time stamp clock frequency to SyncE.
