Software Installation Guide

You can use a configuration file, setup.ini, to control automatic configuration of the Napatech driver and libpcap devices.

Configuration of the Napatech driver

Configuration of the Napatech driver and the SmartNICs with Napatech Software Suite is mainly controlled by a configuration file, ntservice.ini, by default located in /opt/napatech3/config. If ntservice.ini does not exist when ntservice starts, a new ntservice.ini with a default configuration of all installed SmartNICs is created by ntservice.

The default configuration might not be optimal for your purposes. To change the configuration, you can edit ntservice.ini and restart ntservice.

However, you can also specify more suitable parameter values in another configuration file, setup.ini. If ntservice.ini does not exist and setup.ini exists when ntservice starts, the parameters specified in setup.ini will be used to populate a new ntservice.ini and create or overwrite ntpcap.ini (the configuration file for libpcap with Napatech extension).

For more information about ntservice.ini, please refer to the ntservice.ini.txt located in /opt/napatech3/config and to DN-0449.

For more information about parameters supported by setup.ini, please refer to the example_setup.ini file located in /opt/napatech3/config.

Configuration of libpcap

libpcap with Napatech extension is controlled by a configuration file, ntpcap.ini, by default located in /opt/napatech3/config.

If you run the package installer script and select a version of libpcap, a default ntpcap.ini configuration file for libpcap with Napatech extensions is installed. You can edit ntpcap.ini manually.

However, you can also specify more suitable parameter values in another configuration file, setup.ini. If ntservice.ini does not exist and setup.ini exists when ntservice starts, the parameters specified in setup.ini will be used to populate a new ntservice.ini (the configuration file for ntservice) and create or overwrite ntpcap.ini.

For more information about parameters supported by setup.ini, please refer to the example_setup.ini file located in /opt/napatech3/config.

For more information about configuration of libpcap, please refer to DN-0428.

Auto config of driver and devices for 3GA product releases

Note: This information does not apply to 4GA product releases.

If you run the package installer script and select a version of libpcap without auto config of driver and devices, a default ntpcap.ini configuration file for libpcap with Napatech extensions is installed. No setup.ini is installed.

If you run the package installer script and select a version of libpcap with auto config of driver and devices, no ntpcap.ini is installed, but a setup.ini with suitable parameter values for use with libpcap is installed. When ntservice starts, new ntservice.ini and ntpcap.ini configuration files are created.
